Tantalum lends itself well to the process of welding – but it cannot be welded in a normal atmosphere. As a result, not many companies offer a tantalum welding service.
This is one of the main reasons why Special Metals Fabrication (SMF) stands apart from the competition. As one of the UK’s leading specialists in refractory metal products, we’re able to successfully handle this complex material – welding tantalum to meet your specific needs.
Welding of tantalum at Special Metals
Tantalum is very susceptible to attack by oxygen and, to avoid oxidation, it must be welded in a controlled environment. Here at SMF, we currently have two welding chambers that are suitable for use with tantalum. We use ‘Miller Syncrowave’ equipment – one of the most sought-after TIG (tungsten inert gas) welders available – and are capable of welding tantalum to any thickness.
Our tantalum welding services are most commonly used in conjunction with other machining and fabrication processes, to create a tantalum part from the customer’s drawings. However, we also offer a ‘weld only’ service – ideal for any free issue material that you need to be welded.
Why choose us for tantalum welding?
SMF is one of the very few, if not the only, welding company in the UK to offer tantalum welding. Our team are fully coded to weld this complex material. They can take care of the full metal fabrication process from start to finish, expertly welding tantalum using our specialist equipment and performing a range of other machining processes to create the ideal metal part for you.
Customers are at the heart of everything we do. We strive to provide the best possible service and, before leaving our site, all of our tantalum parts undergo a rigorous ‘quality assurance’ assessment. This is how we have gained our reputation for excellence, quality and reliability.
If you would like to find out more about our welding services – whether that be the welding of tantalum or any of our other refractory metals – please feel free to get in touch. We can answer any questions and will happily provide a ‘no obligation’ quote. Either call us today on 01268 820409 or send an email to email@example.com.
