Iridium is a hardened, silver metal. It has the atomic number 77 and the atomic symbol of ‘Ir’. With a melting point of 2446°C and a boiling point of 4428°C, iridium is seen as one of the most unreactive and corrosion resistant materials known to man. It has extremely low toxicity, yet it has an extremely high density and melting point.

Iridium uses include that is helpful in the manufacturing of items in need of electrical use and resisting extremely high temperatures. Iridium also, when alloyed the chemical element osmium, is used for parts in compass bearings and fountain pen tips (known as osmiridium).
